Defend You From Seasons Such as These
Sanctuary and Shelter
I started making coats, empty as though the wearer was there but invisible. The coats soon began to look like buildings – stairways and windows – entire structures built from small units, clad with strips like torn fabric. The partly visible inner structures seem decayed or damaged, like exposed living quarters.
There is still sanctuary and shelter but it is precarious and dangerous. The story has disappeared from the surface and is now inherent in the structure.

Wanderers
Poor naked wretches, where so e’er you are
That bide the pelting of this pitiless storm,
How shall your houseless heads and unfed sides,
Your looped and windowed raggedness defend you
From seasons such as these? [King Lear]
